Veda appointed as authorised provider for the Australian Government’s Document Verification Service

Sydney, Australia, Monday 2 December 2013: Veda, Australia’s leading provider of electronic identity verification services is pleased to announce that it has secured authorised access to the Document Verification Service (DVS), an Australian Government service verifying key Government issued documents.

Documents verified by the DVS include driver’s license; Medicare cards; passports, visas and citizenship certificates.

Veda’s CEO Nerida Caesar said, “This is good news for the banking, telecommunications and superannuation industries. Online identity verification increases their efficiency and ability to approve new customers.

“For consumers, there is the convenience of on-line applications and better protection of their privacy – no one is photocopying and storing their personal documents.  There is no need to go to a bank branch or the Post Office when identity can be verified on-line.

“In addition, Veda has legislated use of credit reporting information, enabling use of our credit reporting files on over 16 million people for Anti-money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing Act (AML-CTF) purposes.

“Access to the DVS creates a digital economy partnership between Government and the private sector,” concluded Ms. Caesar.

Use of the DVS through Veda is available to any organisation with legislated client identification obligations (under Commonwealth law); most often under the AML-CTF. Information provided by a consumer must match that held by the issuing agency.

Imelda Newton, Veda’s General Manager of Fraud & Identity Solutions said “Veda welcomes the introduction of DVS. It secures a more reliable means of verifying key Government documents, making it easier for our customers to satisfy their identity verification obligations.

“Veda has extensive experience as a gateway for our customers to government agencies, including Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) and the Personal Property Security Register (PPSR),” said Ms. Newton.

The DVS gateway is the newest enhancement to Veda’s IDMatrix service.

Used by over 100 organisations in Australia, IDMatrix is an electronic service that verifies customers’ identities and can provide a thorough fraud assessment within seconds. This electronic process uses Veda proprietary data, together with document information and removes the need for customers to provide identity documents or to be physically present to show such documents. It eliminates the paper trail of documents which previously required internal resources to manage and also eliminates the ‘double handling’ of identity data which can subject an organisation to potential fraud.

Since 2012, ID Matrix has conducted over 2.5 million verification enquiries, making it Australia’s leading source of on-line identity verification.
